Solitude and Attitude:By Nayeda Aapa

This poem is an adapt from the oft-quoted poem of Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919)a Wisconsin born theatrical personality attracted to spiritualism,theosophy and mysticism.
The title of this poem is SOLITUDE but a far more fitting title would have been ATTITUDE. Ella conveys that whatever attitude one decides to adopt is precisely what one will attract in his life. Think Sad and you attract emptiness. Think mirth and the world will laugh with you.
There are umpteen poems on SOLITUDE in world literature of all the languages. Most of these speak of melancholy and negative attitude whereas this poem and one by Late H.V. Bachchan talks about 'Positive Attitude and Approach'. Most of us might have enjoyed the writing of Bachchanji and now i feel pleasure in sharing this one by Ella with all friends, here.

हंसो ! हँसेगी दुनिया संग तुम्हारे,
रोवो! रोना पड़ेगा तुम को बस अकेले.
दुनिया के स्वयं अपने भी कष्ट है अनगिनत,
आस है उसको भी आनन्द और प्रमोद के कुछ क्षणों की.
गाओ ! देंगी प्रत्युत्तर पर्वत श्रृंखलाएं भी,
भरोगे यदि आहें हो जाएँगी विलीन पवन में वो भी.
खुशियों के होती है गूंज एवम् प्रतिध्वनी,
किनारा करेंगे सब कोई मर्माहत कराहें सुन कर तुम्हारी.

आनंदित रहो,चाहना होगी संसार को तेरी,
शोकाकुल होने से जायेंगे पलट सब और लगा देंगे फेरी.
खुश रहो, बहुतेरे होंगे मित्र तुम्हारे,
दुःख को रोने से मोडेंगे मुंह वोह सारे.
चाहिए सब को परिमाण प्रसन्नता का ,
उदासी की जरूरत है किसको ?
मधुर सोम-रस पान के लिए ना होगा इंकार किसी को,
किन्तु कड़वाहट का घूँट पीना होगा अकेले तुम को.

दावत दो, भर जायेगा पूरा मंडप तुम्हारा,
उपवास करो, छोड़ चलेगे संग सब तुम्हारा.
सफल होना और देना, देता है मदद जीने में,
मगर कोई भी नहीं देता साथ किसी के मरने में.
आमोद के कक्ष में स्थान है विशाल पंगत को,
मगर दर्द के संकड़े गलियारों से गुजरना होगा.
तनहा तनहा, एक एक कर ,हम सब को.
